MFA Alum Directs Commercial for Greensboro Science Center

Will Davis

MFA Alum, Wil Davis is putting his exceptional video talents to good use in his new position as the Video and Digital Effects assistant at the Greensboro Science Center (GSC). Wil’s duties for the Educational Department at the GSC involve creating video content for in-house use to help educate visitors about the animals and other exhibits. The GSC hosts a zoo, aquarium, museum and omnisphere. Many of the newer exhibits feature ipads that contain digital content such as videos and pictures that are used to give information about the animals on display. Wil helps create content for the ipads as well as multi-media shows designed to educate children about science.

Wil recently directed a 30-second TV spot as well for the GSC, yet another duty of his very busy position! Wil is able to utilize his filmmaking skills in new fun and interesting ways, as he states, “Working at the GSC is extremely rewarding because I get to use filmmaking as a tool for science education.  Plus my co-workers are an extremely talented and intelligent bunch!”

MFA Alum Profiled in Winston-Salem Monthly

cagney gentry

Cagney Gentry, Media Studies MFA alum, is profiled in the February edition of Winston-Salem Monthly magazine. Gentry discusses his experience of using Kickstarter to help fund his film, Harvest. Gentry’s interests include films with delayed narratives. Harvest employs this narrative device to explore the changes in the life of a mountain man who is a ginseng hunter when his day to day routine is disrupted.

Gentry wrapped production on Harvest in the spring of 2013 with the help of his Kickstarter project. He is currently sending the film out to some of the larger film festivals in hopes of obtaining premiere status. He hopes to show Harvest to local audiences once he hears the results of his entries.
