MFA alum Max Negin Publishes New Book on Sports Broadcasting

Max Negin

Media Studies MFA alum, Max Negin, an assistant professor at Elon University’s School of Communication, has published a new textbook in collaboration with Philadelphia 76ers play-by-play voice, Max Zumoff.

The two men meet when Negin was working as an associate producer and broadcast coordinator with the 76ers. During a conversation three years ago, Negin and Zumoff realized they were both working on books about sports broadcasting and decided to combine their ideas. The new textbook combines Negin’s expertise on the technical side of broadcasting with Zumoff’s experience in front of the camera.

“The focus of the book is to give the sportscasters who are early in their careers an overview of the jobs in front of and behind the camera,” Negin said. The book offers insight from well-known voices in broadcasting, including Bob Costas and Vin Scully, as well as advice from experts on the technical side.

Negin worked for many years in sports broadcasting as an editor, writer and producer for major networks, including ESPN, HBO and NBC. He recently worked as a digital media manager for NBC’s coverage of the Olympics in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. He has been teaching at Elon for the past six years, but stays active in sports broadcasting performing freelance work and is hoping to continue his work with the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Negin continues as well to work on personal documentary projects.
