Cinematographer for Jimmy Kimmel Visits Alma Mater

Dr. Frierson’s Film Theory class was treated today to a visit from Bernd Reinhardt, MFA class of ’99, who found his way to the Jimmy Kimmel Live show eight years ago.

Reinhardt recently shot a star-studded comedic piece for Kimmel in the style of a movie trailer.

Reinhardt left Greensboro soon after graduating and moved to L.A., where he dropped his reel off at production companies and shot for field documentaries, eventually joining a union and getting a gig for Dr. Phil. After a stint with Sacha Baron Cohen, he landed the job with Jimmy Kimmel, which he says is “the perfect job.”

Reinhardt told current students they should decide what they want to do, and then train like they’re in the military while they’re in school. You can’t force things to happen, he said, but you can be ready when opportunities arise.

Reinhardt loves the film industry, but took up still photography as an outlet for creative work that is his own entirely. He named the German Expressionist artist Max Bachmann as a primary influence.

The Media Studies Department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro presents the 2014 Carolina Film & Video Festival, which will be held Feb. 26 – March 1 on the UNCG campus.

The Carolina Film & Video Festival (CFVF) invites student and independent filmmakers to submit their films and/or screenplays. We accept films, videos and scripts completed after April 2013. We do NOT accept works in progress. Film or video works must be submitted on DVD or .MOV format (standard play mode; in conformance with NTSC specifications).

To submit your film, visit: http://www.withoutabox.com/login/1075

For the past 35 years, the Carolina Film & Video Festival has set the standard for competitive student-run film festivals, exhibiting hundreds of films in narrative, documentary, animation, and experimental genres over the years. CFVF is the longest running student-run film festival in North Carolina. An esteemed panel of judges annually determines winners in student, North Carolina, narrative, documentary and animation/experimental categories, as well as an overall screenplay winner.
