Dr. Michael Frierson to be a guest on “The State of Things” on WUNC Radio

Dr. Michael Frierson of the Department of Media Studies will be a guest on “The State of Things” from WUNC radio (91.5 FM) tomorrow, Tuesday December 13th at noon.

Frierson will talk about his documentary FBI KKK. The film is the story of the filmmaker’s father, Dargan Frierson, an FBI agent in Greensboro, NC during the 1960s, and the intersection of his life with George Dorsett, the Imperial Kludd, or chaplain, of the United Klans of America under a program called COINTELPRO WHITE HATE.

In the late 60s, North Carolina had the largest active Klan membership of any Southern state, despite its progressive history. The film documents the life of Frierson’s father as the emerging New South replaced the Jim Crow era, and the personal friendship that developed as Frierson used Dorsett first to infiltrate, and then to neutralize the Klan in North Carolina.
