MFA 2007 Graduate, Rusty Sheridan, Getting Back to Creative Roots

Rusty Sheridan graduated from UNCG’s MFA program in 2007 and although he made the decision to stay local, this has not held him back.  He is senior faculty in a new program in Film/Video production at The Art Institute of Charlotte, where he has taught courses on directing, cinematography, acting, and aesthetics.  He also works as an adjunct position at UNC Charlotte where he teaches basic video production and film studies courses in European cinema.

When not in the classroom, Rusty is directing and producing commercial projects for businesses both local and national.  He has produced industrials and web spots for companies such as Earth Fare, Fedex, Panasonic, Bank of America, and various mom-and-pop businesses in the Charlotte area.

Despite this surge of the commercial work, Rusty says he is beginning to get back to his creative roots.  Last fall he shot a short film noir on 16mm film, and he hopes to have the piece done and submitted to film festivals beginning this summer.  The next creative project will be his first feature:  a science fiction comedy that he hopes to shoot this Fall.

“In short I am enjoying life and enjoying film.”
